Women's Tennis inks three for next year

Due West, SC – Erskine Women’s Tennis Coach Calhoun Parr is pleased to announce the signing of three student-athletes for next year.  The three future Flying Fleet members are Hannah Ecleberry, Miranda Guthrie, and Sarah McDonald.

Hannah Ecleberry comes to Erskine from Charlotte, North Carolina, where she attends Charlotte Christian School.  Having played competitive tennis since the age of 10, Hannah has achieved a Top 50 ranking for the Southern Region of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and is currently in the USTA Top 10 for North Carolina.  She won the North Carolina 16 and under Clay Court Doubles Championship in 2008 and repeated as doubles champion the following year in the 18 and under division.  The Charlotte Observer placed her on their 2009 and 2010 “Girls Tennis Players to Watch” list.  Outside of tennis, Hannah is actively involved in the National Junior Classical League Latin Honor Society, writes for her school newspaper, and volunteers as a child care provider for a women’s bible study at her church.

Miranda Guthrie competed in her first USTA national tournament at the age of thirteen.  The Suwanee, Georgia native is ranked in the USTA Southern Region Top 100 and has been ranked as high as 16th by the USTA in the state of Georgia.  In 2010, Miranda received the USTA Sportsmanship Award.  When not playing tennis, Amanda enjoys singing for her church, playing ping-pong and reading. 

The last member of this year’s early signing class for is South Carolina native Sarah McDonald.   Sarah led her high school team to back-to-back South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) 2A titles in 2009 and 2010, winning the singles title in 2010.  She is a six-time SCISA All-Region Player of the Year while being named to the SCISA All-State team each time.  She has also received the SCISA Scholar-Athlete Award.  Off the court, Sarah is actively involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, where she has served as the club’s president this past year.  She also was attended Palmetto Girls State.

Coach Parr states, “When I look at the three players we signed this year, I feel very blessed because all three players have great results in junior tennis, have great results academically and have very strong Christian character.  Sarah, Miranda and Hannah will be great representatives of Erskine's tennis motto "Winning is Important, Winning with Character is Everything".
