Box Score Due West, S.C. – Trailing 2 sets to 1, #5 Erskine stormed back to defeat #4 Barton 3 to 2 (23-25, 25-18, 11-25, 25-19, 15-12) in the quarter finals of the Conference Carolinas Championship Tournament at Wilson Gymnasium.
Erskine (12-14) dropped two of the first three sets, including a 25 to 11 thumping in the third set. The Flying Fleet fought back to win the fourth set convincingly 25 to 19 and the fifth set 15 to 12 .In the fourth set, freshman
Allie Evans (Frisco, TX, Frisco High School) sparked an 11-0 run with five kills.
Evans finished the night with 10 kills and 4 digs while teammate
Caitlin Bullock (Lexington, SC, White Knoll High School) had a game-high 13 kills and 18 digs for her eighth double-double of the year. Setter
Megan Johnson (Little River, SC, Scholars Academy) also earned a double-double with 28 assists and 11 digs. Senior
Anna Butrym (West Columbia, SC, White Knoll High School) had a stellar night anchoring the back row with a game-high 21 digs.
Barton's Melissa Cochran had 12 kills and 9 blocks and teammate Kaitlyn Micol had 10 kills and 12 digs. Barton finished its season at 14-14.
Erskine will now travel to face #1 Belmont Abbey on Wednesday. #1 Belmont Abbey (26-3) defeated #8 North Greenville 3-1 to advance in the tournament. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
