Box Score Due West, S.C. – Playing a man down, #1 Erskine survived the Trojans of Mt. Olive College, the 8
th seed, edging them 2 to 1 in the Quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Championship Tournament at Huggins Field.
After a penalty put the Fleet down a man, Erskine caught a break when
Jack Power (Westcliff-On-Sea, Essex, England, The King John High School) was pulled down in the box. Teammate
Jonathan Rutter (Birmingham, England, Fairfax) blasted home the ensuing penalty kick as the Flying Fleet hung on to win 2 to 1.
Erskine was outshot 18 to 10, including 10 to 6 in the second half.

Roberto De La Vina (Oviedo, Spain, San Ignacio) made several outstanding saves, including a sliding tackle to preserve the tie late in the second half. De La Vina finished with 13 saves that pushed him over 400 total saves in his career.
In the opening period, Erskine's
Ross Henderson (Lincoln, England, William Farr C of E) scored the game's first goal off a rebound from teammate's Tobias Betz's shot. Betz's shot was blocked by a Trojan defender and ricocheted to Henderson.
Following intermission, the Trojans quickly tied the game as Bright Eto found in the middle of the box an open John Sonnendecker, who placed the ball perfectly into the right corner.
Erskine was called for a penalty in the 60
th minute that forced Erskine to play the remainder of the game with 10 players.
With the win, Erskine hosts #5 Pfeiffer University on Friday. Pfeiffer defeated #4 seeded Lees-McRae 3 to 2 tonight to advance to Friday's game.
