Sumter, S.C. – Erskine’s top two newcomers Wilson Mathewes and Dean Harris earned all-conference recognition as announced at last night’s league tennis team banquet at Conference Tournament Championships at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, South Carolina.
Mathewes was named 2
nd Team All-Conference while Harris was selected 3
rd Team All-Conference. From his #2 singles position, Mathewes posted the Fleet’s best singles record at 14-7 overall while going an impressive 9-1 in conference. In doubles, Mathewes and Jack West played well at the top of the order going 11-7 overall and 6-4 in conference.
Harris played at #3 singles and finished with the Fleet’s second best overall record at 10-11 and was 6-4 in conference. Harris partnered with fellow freshman Alan Pearce to go 7-11 in doubles and 4-6 in conference.
The Conference Carolinas All-Conference Teams are determined by vote from each Head Coach of participating league institutions. Nominations are collected and then voted upon to determine Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Coach of the Year, All-Conference First Team, All-Conference Second Team and All-Conference Third Team.
#7 Erskine plays #2 Mt. Olive College this morning at 9 a.m. in the opening round of the conference tournament.
