Due West, SC – Five different Erskine baseball players have been voted to various 2014 All Region teams as announced over the last several days.
On Thursday, the National Colligate Baseball Writers Association named their All Southeast Region team.
Zach Smith (Lexington, SC, White Knoll HS) was named first team utility, while
Austin Gambrell (Belton, SC, Spartanburg Methodist College),
Chase Corn (Travelers Rest, SC, Blue Ridge HS), and
Brandon Overstreet (Stuart, FL, Herkimer CC) were each named to the second team. Smith finished the season hitting .333 with 10 home runs, nine doubles, three triples and 52 RBI's. Gambrell, who was the conference Pitcher of the Year, was 8-2 with a 4.27 ERA with 58 strike outs and just 15 walks. Corn finished his career hitting .383 with 15 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, 55 RBI's and 30 stolen bases. Overstreet was tied for the team lead in home runs with 10, while hitting .348 with 15 doubles and 41 RBI's.
The American Baseball Coaches Association announced their All Region teams Saturday as well as the region's Gold Glove team. Corn was selected to the second team All Southeast region team for the second straight year. Right fielder
Andrew Kozak (Sidney, NY, Hudson Valley CC) was selected to the ABCA's Southeast Region's Gold Glove team making 100 putouts this season with three assists and no errors.
