Due West, S.C. - The Fleet cruised through the opening set winning 25-17 before having to fight for their win in the second. The Crusaders led for the majority of the 2nd set until the Fleet were able to fight back and tie it up at 22-22. It was their excellent decision making and strong defensive effort that allowed Erskine to seize the win with a score of 26-24. Erskine ended the match with a solid team effort that carried them to a 25-13 victory for the sweep over the Crusaders.
As a team the Fleet hit .379 for the match and accumulated 8 blocks. Senior Roberto Perez Vargas led the Fleet with 13 kills and 3 digs, followed by Mike Michelau with 10 kills and 7 digs. Neal Stanley and Omar Melendez both hit about .500 with 9 and 6 kills respectively. David Grandy led the team offensively with 40 assists while Michael Schneck anchored the defense with season high of 14 digs.
This win moved Erskine to the number two spot in the conference with a 2-0 record, 3-2 overall. The Fleet will travel to Misenheimer, NC this Wednesday for their next match against the number one ranked Pfeiffer Falcons. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
